[admin post] Admin Post: question time!

Now that we've got a few people in here, I'd like to start things off by revisiting the canon we're here for! There are, obviously, a few ways we can do this, which is where you all come in. Please answer the following questions in the comments; once everyone's answered or a few days pass, I'll use your responses to come up with a schedule for regular discussion posts.

  1. Which would you prefer to do as a group?
    A) Read the manga
    B) Watch the anime
    C) Both read the manga and watch the anime

  2. If we focus on reading the manga, what pace would you prefer?
    A) 1 volume a month
    B) 1 volume every 2 weeks
    C) x chapters a week
    D) x chapters a month
    E) I trust your judgment, internet stranger!

  3. If we focus on watching the anime, what pace would you prefer?
    A) 1 episode a week
    B) 2 episodes a week
    C) x episodes every 2 weeks
    D) x episodes a month
    E) I trust your judgment, internet stranger!

  4. If we focus on both the manga and the anime, would your pace preferences change? To what?

  5. If we watch the anime, which would you prefer?
    A) The subbed version
    B) The English dub
    C) Everyone picks their favorite/most convenient language and we make it work

  6. If you're new to the series or didn't see/read all of it, would you like the discussions to remain spoiler-free for later parts?

Hopefully that covers everything, but if I missed something or you have any questions, of course feel free to ask. Thank you!

1. A (I guess) but more because I've never read the manga, or if I have I've forgotten.

2. C. I'd be attempting to read it in Japanese and in general I'm pretty busy with school so, 1 chapter a week sounds good to me...

3. B. Because watching is easier than reading, you can even watch while you eat for example.

4. I'd want the manga pacing to match the anime pacing (does the anime even follow the manga??) and maybe slow down the reading/watching speed a little.

5. A. The Japanese dub is the "original" after all (you all know America: the land of Censureship, Mistranslations and Unnecessary Dialogue Edits) but in my case I'll also be covering up the subs for Japanese practice so...

6. I'm not new but avoiding spoilers is probably best. You never know who'll find this comm's posts in 10 years' time.

1. B - Watch the anime. I read the manga last year but have only seen a couple dozen episodes of the anime. It'd also be easier for me to obtain.

2. B - Any long-form read-along I've participated in has died off when stretched out too long.

3. B - See above. The anime is about 100 episodes, isn't it? That's a year of watching at two a week.

4. Maybe pause one if it gets too far ahead of the other?

5. C - I'd probably be going back and forth anyway.

6. No preference. Even for anyone new to the series, it's 25yo.

WHELP, I guess I'm going to need to find some YYH icons.

1. Which would you prefer to do as a group?
c. Both read the manga and watch the anime

2. If we focus on reading the manga, what pace would you prefer?
b. 1 volume every 2 weeks OR e. I trust your judgment, internet stranger!

3. If we focus on watching the anime, what pace would you prefer?
b 2 episodes a week (I could probably handle 3/week + commentary but not 4)

4. If we focus on both the manga and the anime, would your pace preferences change? To what?
Mmm, probably not. I could still handle 2 volumes/month and 2-3 episodes/week. (But there's also no reason to close down the chatting posts either, right? I could see a situation where I'm running late, easily.)

5. If we watch the anime, which would you prefer?
COMPLICATED. Enough that I'm going to chatter on about it. I would love to see the subbed version, but I personally only have the dub without subtitles. Maybe the sub is lurking somewhere on youtube? I WOULD LOVE TO FIND IT. c Everyone picks their favorite/most convenient language and we make it work is probably going to be the easiest to do, so I'll pick that.

6. If you're new to the series or didn't see/read all of it, would you like the discussions to remain spoiler-free for later parts?
I'm not new (actually, I think this was the very first fandom I wrote in? definitely the first fandom I played in on the internet) but I'm leaning in favor of avoiding spoilers. Or, at least, trying to avoid spoilers. (I'm not opposed to spoiler text, though? Like, black text with a black background? If there's something you absolutely must say - then do so. ...actually, rot13 might be better than black text/black background. IDK which is better for accessibility reasons.)

1. B) I would say watch the anime. Some individuals don't even own the manga. I can go for another anime rewatch. I do own all 19 volumes of the manga and I just like to read those during my own time.

2. A) If we were to focus on the manga, I would just like to read one volume a month. It would give me plenty of time to sit down and read a chapter or two. My schedule these days has been quite busy due to school and other real life things. I'm just lucky for the small I amount of time that I have to sit down and write fanfiction.

3. B) Two episodes a week sounds like a perfect plan. Though, the YYH Rewatch on Tumblr from 2 years ago did 7 episodes a week and completed all four seasons in 4 months. That was a lot of fun. I wouldn't mind doing that again. It's one the things that inspired me to write my own fanfiction.

4. I would say my pace preference would stay the same but, I don't mind following everyone else's.

5. B) The English Dub. The dub is the best even though I do enjoy the sub but, the dub will always be the best. So yeah, the dub.

6. I have read all 19 volumes of the manga and seen the anime multiple times. For those that haven't, I say we should remain spoiler free for those individuals.
